Llandaff is to have a totally new organ in the next few years, the draft stoplist is not out and about yet as far as I know but no doubt the instrument will be an exciting one given the company that is to build it and the importance of its situation. I seem to remember reading that a prime factor in its design will be its part in the liturgy rather than any major repertoire slant so what would you do in the situation? Let's say 55 - 60 stops, nothing contraversial and with a normal cathedral music programme in mind - and what about the nave bridge case?. We haven't had one of these stoplist 'thingies' for a bit and it is the weekend with rain forcast (in the UK at least) so there may be some time available - family and duties permitting. Who will start? AJJ

Small scale but the Aubade from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet (John Lewis Christmas Advert) works well! AJJ

It's certainly done some weird things as far as my school is concerned! AJJ

That's stopped the nagging - thanks! A

There is quite an effective recording of this arrangement played here by John Scott - an early Priory CD. AJJ

Is the Solo Tromba H&H? Something nagging at the back of my mind links it with Hele but maddeningly I can't remember why I should be thinking this!! AJJ

He has brought out a couple of DVDs on the Plenum Vox label - Personal Notes 2 and 3 (1 is just a CD I think) - my wife got them for me for my birthday after they had been mentioned on here. You get some Baroque improvisation and some Symphonic stuff at S. Ouen Rouen. Magic!! AJJ

We use this at school for all the 'jobbing' tasks including GCSE coursework discs, class recording, concert recordings and material for podcasts and I find it very easy to use, it sounds good and it is free to download. My colleague also uses an Adobe programme ('can't remember which - Pro perhaps?) this costs and is a little easier to use for podcasts etc. though generally more complex. I have also used Audacity on a lap top for my own recordings. AJJ

Thanks for all this info. folks - I've just ordered my own copy of the partitas - 2 manuals at home make up for one at church! AJJ

I've still got my copy from my school days (sorry WGS - London N12) - I still use it quite a lot too. AJJ

I have all of these I think - 'not sure whether they are still available though. AJJ

I have a feeling it is Ralph Downes' Baroque Tricks - mine is buried at present so I can't check. AJJ

If you haven't done already - do buy David Coram's Romsey CD and communicate with him - it's one of the best I've bought for a long while. Andrew Post (Vif Records - also DOM at Christchurch Priory) did the recording and the quality is excellent. Quite a few smaller companies offer good deals - or if you know someone with the clobber then you could do it that way. AJJ

This makes interesting reading too: AJJ

Glad to be of help Peter - it's my Sunday off today so I'm afraid it's Sainsburys now - please don't anyone start a thread on that! AJJ

The Hymn was How can I Sing that Majesty- Tune: Coe Fen by Ken Naylor. I've just emailed Peter Gould to find out what the voluntary was also - even though we only got a matter of seconds of it! AJJ PS The organ there always sounds (especially on broadcasts) better than it looks as if it should - I seem to remember that underneath all the Compton there is some good older pipework and that Ralph Downes was a great fan of the previous incarnation.

It probably will - 'best thing is to get Stephen back to have a look. AJJ

While trying to find new repertoire to play on the 1 man. and pedal that I regularly use I came acros the 30 Pieces for Small Organ by Distler along with his smaller scale hymn tune based pieces. They are quite attractive in a simple and quirky sort of way - dating from the 1930s and in a vaguely 'Hindemithian' style. Distler (1908 - 1942) was for a time organist at St. Jacobi in Lűbeck and also Professor of Music in Stuttgart. He committed suicide at the age of 34 after pressure of work, depression following the death of friends and the fear of conscription into the Nazi forces. Do any of you play any of his larger scale pieces? I've not heard anything by him played though an article in Organists' Review sometime ago did mention him in passing. AJJ

A quick feed into the NPOR of 'Bishop' and 'Cricklewood' came up with no results. AJJ

Here is a good example of a split personality organist - half way through Danse Macabre he pops out for a hair cut ...and a new console etc!! AJJ

What Future Is There For The Iao And Local Associations?
AJJ replied to MusingMuso's topic in General discussion
My IAO Association (Bristol) does really good stuff! AJJ -
I like the way it says 'Report inappropriate content' under the photo of the containers - what would we report I wonder - a set of H & H Violes and a Tromba? AJJ
