    Milos Sokola

It is possible that Nicolas Kynaston plays this piece - I think he also may have recorded it on a Hyperion CD from Chichester Cathedral but as far as I can see this recording is no longer available - it certainly doesn't crop up in current Hyperion catalogues. AJJ
  2. Amazing as ever - thanks! AJJ
  3. Sorry Pierre - 'can't help you on this. AJJ
  4. Is this any help? - see 'Updated History' and 'Further Information'. AJJ
  5. I agree with this but would also add that my musical education from singing in the same church choir from the age of nine till I left for university had even more influence on the way I still do things 'musically' now. AJJ
  6. I have the same situation for December 29th but have suggested that they get the music if they want it - with an added complication that a string quartet is also due to appear for the occasion. If anything turns up I will gladly pass it on. AJJ
  7. My two daughters go to a superb little village C of E first school and most of their assembly music is like this. Christian festivals are kept and they do have occasional services at the local church where this style of music is again used. Sunday services there are trad. hymns and Mission Praise - no choir and a fairly elderly congregation. Few of the school children are in evidence. Our local parish church has a dynamic DOM and consequently the choir is of a healthy size and sings a good repertoire - both in the choir and congregation there appear to be a reasonable number of young people - it helps with good school connections in the town. Where I play our Rector runs the choir and although this is at present solely adult there are again good junior school connections in the villages so younger people are evident in 'junior church' type activities especially at family services. Where I work we have a concert of a 'festive nature' at Christmas - usually we manage to suite all tastes with some choir carols as well as more secular solos etc. Mostly it is held relatively early before the end of term and therefore before Christmas so I don't go overboard too much with mass audience carols (which anyway don't tend to work too well in our secular space) as I really feel that we are pushed into starting Christmas too early as it is. I suppose what I am saying is that on the whole nowadays it would seem to to be more the task of the church based musicians to keep the traditions going whether or not they go into schools to support this task - certainly at a secondary level I can do pretty much what I want with the choirs but full school hymn singing etc. is not likely to be on the agenda. 8. And with newish lady assistants at Peterborough and Lichfield things are looking up. AJJ
  9. Who please? AJJ PS - Question answered - just spotted the announcement on the Chichester website.
  10. Review copies to all the journals etc. and sell via your website? Maybe Allegro Music might take some too. Put me down for one. AJJ
  11. One does have to take care though - with the inuendo brigade about and things like 'Organ Uplift', 'Organ Explosion' or 'The Mighty Organ' can also sound decidedly naf. AJJ
  12. I eventually got fed up with not being able to get into churches to practice, cold hands (and the rest),less than tip top organs and being the only person in our house with no instrument to work on. I eventually invested in a house organ - my Rector even asked with that at home would I still want to come and play for his services! AJJ

  14. Suggestions please - something different to play on this after the lessons and carols on Christmas Eve - flat out with the box open it has a distinct sniff of the 'gallic rustic' about it - last year I gave them some Dandrieu etc. Manual Open Diapason 8 unenclosed Dulciana 8 TC Viol di Gamba 8 TC Clarabella 8 TC Stopt Diapason Bass 8 Principal 4 Flute 4 TC Fifteenth 2 Hautboy 8 TC Pedal Bourdon 16 (non standard & short compass) Manaual to Pedal Coupler Thanks in anticipation! Rolande Falcinelli

A number of years ago there was a review of a recording of Falcinlli's works in a certain UK organ journal (not OR) that referred to her throughout as if she were a male! AJJ
  16. This looks very interesting - I did my degree dissertation on De Grigny and could do with a decent recording of the Mass. AJJ

    A Second Chance

I think it was because someone felt that it was in the liturgical way! It straddled the nave on four legs in a rather strange looking case by (I think) Sir Edward Maufe - architect of the eastern cathedral extensions. Bradford University also has research going on into digitals etc. so I would guess the solution to the above was also convenient. AJJ
  18. And less fabulous too - my antiquated 1 man. was gummed up last winter when someone used the fan heater directly on the keys. Mercifully it soon returned to its humid (and arctic) self! AJJ
  19. I have a feeling that quite a few of us might also be interested. AJJ

    Transcriptions

I've used the main theme a few times - Parade of the Ewoks works well - 'sounds a bit like some of music from those OUP 20th Century Organ Music albums - Princess Leia's Theme went down quite well during an over long communion. My 7 and 8 year olds are both girls and so far (apart from Dr Who and Harry Potter) seem more interesed in High School Musical (don't even go there!) than anything approaching Star Wars. AJJ

.........and Doncaster PC, Melton Mowbray PC, Norwich Cathedral, Newcastle Cathedral.........albeit some of these at least not full compass. AJJ
  22. Or even this - you'll need to download Sibelius Scorch to see it though. AJJ

'Vaguely similar recollections - 'can't remember from where though. AJJ
  24. I have written this here before but I really, really do think that a certain choirmastering column in OR has run its course. The writer may have had an illustrious career but from a personal POV I find it all quite condescending! AJJ
