  1. DOM Southwell Minster - 'thoroughly good bloke! AJJ
  2. There is a good recent recording of this made at Downside Abbey by a certain Mr Derrett - well worth getting! AJJ
  3. At least you weren't listening to Songs of Praise then - I think I need a gizmo to get Radio Cochereau or whatever it is! Hexham Abbey organ sounded fine but the version of Make me a Channel was even more toe curling than the original despite the fine voiced young ladies in red dresses singing. Also - Aled Jones may appeal to a few of the over 70s but maybe he should stick to The Snowman on prime time TV. Who is all this supposed to be aimed at? Sorry folks - the normally stress free AJJ is in need of a beer! AJJ
  4. Like for instance a complete set of T.C. Lewis Lieblichs from 16' to 2' - I remember the first time I heard this effect - here possibly - before it burnt down. Quite an amazing sound. There are still a few around I think even if they have been re planted in an 'alien envionment' such as here. My all time favourite though is here - just listen to those flutes! AJJ
  5. Try the Three Tone Pieces (Op.22) by Niels Gade - he was rather a Danish Mendelssohn - not that difficult and really rather nice. There are also partitas galore by Walther, Böhm etc. which sound good on most instruments and what about 'lesser Langlais' (Prelude Modale, Priere etc.). One could go on and on..................! AJJ
  6. This was the case with me once .....till I discovered by accident that they had installed movement sensor alarms between two visits....! AJJ
  7. There's also this. Now somewhere in Devon. AJJ
  8. The continuing St John's and Worcester documentation brings a welcome sense of reality to our little world on occasions - 'much gratitude for Nigel Allcoat and Adrian Lucas giving of their time to provide us with all this information! AJJ
  9. .............and hopefully more will be forthcoming when the next one arrives. AJJ
  10. My own Dulciana is digital but I still use it a great deal - there are some nice ones here. AJJ P.S. I've just realised that this is in the Aubertin thread - how come we are back on Dulcianas again?
  11. NPOR gives one on the Swell now. AJJ

Despite the fact that my oldest friend and also my godson are singing on this - the track mentioned above still makes my toes curl. Needless to say there is some fantastic stuff on the disc too. AJJ
  13. This is similar to the situation at the church near to where I live and where I used to practice - eventually I installed an organ at home and have not looked back - so to speak. It was either that, use the church when the (obliging) organist was doing her filing or do without. AJJ
  14. I once had a very nice letter from Songs of Praise when I wrote pointing out the incongruity of shots (many) of the new and then incomplete Metzler at St. Mary's Oxford interpose with someone playing a 2 man. electronic with more glowing stop tabs than lights on a christmas tree. The writer praised me for my observance but rather made it seem as if few others would have noticed or even been bothered! AJJ
  15. Copied from another place because it fits better here: 'Have just heard the programme - some nice bits - Malcolm Archer at the Ballroom was a bit alternative. I played a piece the other week that veered off in a similar way to his Jesu Joy - 'trouble was it didn't head towards the seaside rather some atonal zone due to a complete mental block on my part! Huw Edwards was good. Is Gordon Stewart back over here again? AJJ

  19. It's a bit like people moving house to be near a decent school - 'could set a trend! AJJ
  20. ..........and mind you do not loose the allen key! AJJ

    New Cathedral Organ

Yes - this is done quite often. Bath Abbey has the 'small' pedal chest (8' stops upwards) at the top of the main case with a fantastic Cello 8' in the facade. The big stuff is behind. 'Can't remember if there is a Tremulant though. AJJ
