If you don't follow news of appointments etc elsewhere... according to Slipped Disc...

  • Oliver Morrell, Organ Scholar at St Albans, is going with Andrew Lucas to Winchester as a Sub Organist;
  • Tom Winpenny has announced that he is also leaving St Albans at the end of August.

One from Germany for anyone interested although it seems, from the source of information, that the appointment won't take effect for about another 13 months.

Alexander Niehues, presently Kapellmeister (master of the (chapel) choir) of St. Lambertus, Dusselforf since November 2020, is to take up the same post at Cologne Cathedral effective from 01st September 2025. He has previously held posts in Mainz, Freiburg and Mannheim before taking up the role at Dusseldorf.

Herr Niehues, who is in his early 40s, succeeds Prof. Eberhard Metternich who will resign the role of Kapellmeister role at Cologne Cathedral after nearly 40 years in post.

The news release is here although you may need to use Google Translate to put it into English if your browser doesn't do it automatically.

St Paul's is now looking for its new (senior) Organist in succession to Will Fox who was Acting Organist

News from St. Paul's Cathedral today of the appointment of James Orford, currently Organist and ADOM of St. Paul's, Knightsbridge. He is described on the St. Paul's website as "a prize-winning organist and pianist, having completed both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the Royal Academy of Music, receiving first-class awards in both."

Gosh - what a player! Have a listen to the Jonathan Dove piece at the beginning of  the Truro recital on JO's website - very exciting! Exciting times at St Paul's with not just a new organist team but the start of the new girls' choir coming up in a year's time.

Looking ahead a bit, there are some anniveraries to celebrate at St Paul's soon. 2027 will mark 50 years since the completion of the Mander rebuild with the Royal Trumpets, new dome chorus, North Choir division etc. 2030 will mark 100 years since the Trompette Militaire was installed in 1930, and 70 years since the Contra Bombarde was put in in 1960. It would be tremendous to see them commission some new organ music to celebrate these milestones.
