  1. And he has even come on here occasionally! AJJ
  2. Which is why even on my 'digital' at home I have tuned one of the 'profiles' away from equal temperament so that I can get at least an approximation of this effect in Couperin and De Grigny etc. AJJ
  3. Now there's a thought - I wonder how something like that would go down at my place just before the notices! It might add a little spice to the whereabouts of the coffee morning or whatever. AJJ
  4. I seem to recall the choir organ being in the lower gallery. AJJ
  5. This is a bit of a change from the Thorne - St Thomas Mass!!! At leas it shows that even the great and good have to do the 'usual chores' too. I bet he doesn't get someone in the front row of the congregation as we had this morning who resolutely refused to sing the version of Slane without the two quavers at the start of the second line of each verse. With the ND de P Chamades I could have reduced him to a gibbering heap after verse 1 - my Swell Oboe was just not the same thing. AJJ
  6. As far as I can remember there was a major 'ding dong' with various factions etc. all voicing opposite opinions with the builder doing what he was asked by the authorities - yet upsetting others. I thought it was aired on here at one point but maddeningly I can not recall where or retrieve it. AJJ
  7. We were there a year ago and this seemed to be the case then - it looked a bit dilapidated from downstairs at least. AJJ
  8. There is a story behind all this and somewhere stoplists etc. but I forget where - certainly the recent work at Ste C has not been without discussion in the organ world of Paris - many 'big guns' have had their say. AJJ Later.....here's something - but still only 3 manuals!
  9. I wonder if pcnd has seen this. AJJ
  10. Try YouTube also - there are some good examples of him in action there. Try this one for a start - it's been on here before - no appologies though! Re Symphony Hall - one of Thomas Trotter's CDs from there has part of the Hommage a Igor Stravinsky on it - I think it is the one of the opening concert because there is a mixture of choral and organ music - can't remember it's title though - something like Pulling Out the Stops - on their own label. AJJ
  11. The publicity put about in the US for Cameron Carpenter and the digital instrument he is using suggests the rather 'off beam' nature of both even before they are seen, heard or played - reading between the lines so to speak - lots of sweeping statements and superlatives etc.! I personally tend to find the lady organist under discussion in other parts of this forum rather in the same mold. AJJ
  12. Try Geoffrey Atkinson here - he might know.
  13. The one about how he tailored pieces to specific acoustics will be interesting too. AJJ
  14. Here is another similar - these small 2 man. FHW instruments are always amazingly versatile. This one was however not in brilliant condition last time I was there. AJJ
  15. Or the Year 9s (13 Year olds) who I have been looking at Toccatas with - Bach (D Minor), Widor, Reger etc. - I didn't think it would work but it did. They now know about the organ and how their HOD is hooked on it and they can even play bits and construct Toccata like pieces of their own on all kinds of weird combinations of instrument. Maybe I'll try Howells next Pierre! AJJ
  16. And Schoenstein in the US can get you a new one if you really want one - perhaps we on the board could chip in and save up for one in time for Christmas 2008 - just in time for In Dulci Jubilo etc. AJJ
  17. Smoke on the Water can come out like the start of the plainsong Te Deum if incorporated in some Langlais like harmonies. I sometimes use this or Postman Pat depending on whether it is a family service or something slightly more grown up. Once a teenage type did come up and ask me whether it was the former which I took as a complement - l'ucky I was playing the right one that day! AJJ
  18. Quite an interesting one - from here to here to the present. The Dulcianas were there at first and curiously it is the mixture that is left - though maybe altered. AJJ
  19. If you have time it would be interesting to read more about this. AJJ
  20. Very exciting - please keep them coming! AJJ

    New Cathedral Organ

There is a good write up in the most recent edition of Organ Building. AJJ
  22. I seem to remember it being on an Organ Club tour not so long ago and being written up in one of the Journals - may be wrong though. AJJ
  23. I like the look of this: http://www.jennings-organs.co.uk/pages/9s-houseorg.htm AJJ
